This print is based on a copper engraving by the great Giovanni Battista Piranesi, whose works have set standards in the representation of ancient architecture for over 300 years. What makes this sheet so special, however, is not only the historical template – but also the exceptional care with which it was prepared for printing.

Thanks to state-of-the-art reconstruction processes and precise post-processing in several passes, every detail of this original has been worked out so finely that even the finest lines and engraving structures are visible in a resolution that is not available in conventional online databases. A comparable quality is sought elsewhere in vain.

🧠 A visual archive – carefully recreating

The restoration was carried out on the basis of high-resolution scans, which were assembled in a multi-stage process from hundreds of individual segments to a flawless whole. The effort that has flowed into this edition corresponds to several months of specialized image processing.
